My first year was wonderful. I lived on-campus, all of my classes were at most a 10-minute walk, and I had easy access to the dining hall, although my gut health suffered from eating there -- there was, and still is, very little diversity in what you can get -- little to no raw veggies, fruit is half rotten, and is unsanitary at stations unmanned by staff.
However, this year, specifically this spring semester of 2024, many issues have arisen within the university and administration. The school removed the free expression tunnels, which had been established for over 40 years, there is active construction and dangerous learning environments in Wey Hall, over-admission by the Chancellor, increasing prices for the same, if not lower-quality services such as parking, housing, and tuition, and general housing -- on-campus is only guaranteed for first-years, which means you may end up in a refurbished hotel, bought due to the overwhelming amount of folks accepted. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

My experience with Appalachian State University has been quite positive overall.
One of the standout features of App State University is its commitment to academic excellence. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines, including business, education, health sciences, and more. The campus is truly stunning. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the university offers breathtaking views and a serene environment that is conducive to studying and relaxation. App State University has a vibrant student community with numerous clubs, organizations, and events that cater to a wide range of interests.
While my experience at Appalachian State University was largely positive, there are always areas for improvemen. One aspect that could be improved at the university is diversity and inclusion efforts. Improving infrastructure such as parking facilities, classroom technology, and recreational spaces can further enhance the overall experience.

Throughout my first two years at Appalachian State, I have loved everything about this college town. In light of living in the mountains, students use their free times exploring the hiking trails, driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway to many of the overlooks, and having some winter fun skiing or snowboarding down the fresh powder.
While the scenery in Boone is truly amazing, students have a passion to keep Boone clean. I have loved being eco-friendly in the smallest ways. I have learned to use more sustainable products such as glass ware and reusable dish ware when getting coffee and making food.
It is not just the town that draw people to Appalachian state but, the school its' self! I have met people from all sorts of states and cities. Our largest program within the University is our teaching program. Appalachian State holds the number one teaching program in the state! While teaching is not everyones' passion, our psychology and nursing program are highly rated as well!
