Minimum QualificationsThe department invites applications for one faculty position in public health nutrition and dietetics with areas of expertise in areas such as public health nutrition, food systems, and clinical nutrition.
Doctoral degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, community nutrition, or a closely related field is required.
ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire.
Applicants must have a demonstrated research agenda with preference to research in community dietetics and public health nutrition, and experience mentoring student research projects.
Areas Of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)The department especially seeks candidates who hold the Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist credential.
The successful applicant will have a focus on teaching excellence in both the traditional and online environments.

Description Of The Department Or UnitThe Department of Nutrition and Health Care Management has 22 full-time faculty and approximately 600 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department, created as part of the new Beaver College of Health Sciences which began in 2010, has grown significantly in enrollment. The Nutrition and Foods programs have doubled since that time.
These include an undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics, a combined Dietetic Internship/MS Nutrition Program, online graduate programs in Public Health Nutrition including master’s and certificate programs, and newly anticipated Future Model Graduate Program in Public Health Nutrition and Dietetics. The Public Health Nutrition concentration curriculum is aligned with competencies defined by the World Public Health Nutrition Association and the Association of Graduate Programs in Public Health Nutrition. The undergraduate program also includes concentrations in Nutrition and Wellness, an accelerated admissions track for the Master’s program in Public Health Nutrition, and Food Systems Management. Both the undergraduate dietetics program and the dietetic internship are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics ( ACEND ). Appalachian State University’s Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS ) is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities it serves through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service and clinical outreach. BCHS supports over 3,400 students in nine undergraduate degree programs and nine graduate degree programs, organized into six departments: Nursing; Nutrition and Health Care Management; Public Health and Exercise Science; Recreation Management and Physical Education; Rehabilitation Sciences; and Social Work. Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesPrimary instructional duties may include areas across public health nutrition and dietetics including clinical, food systems, and community nutrition, as well as oversight of students in supervised experiential learning and capstone projects.
Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship, and mentor graduate student research and capstone projects.
Faculty members are expected to participate in service activities at the program, department, college, university, profession, and community levels.
Responsibilities also include advising, coaching, and mentoring students in professional and career development.

ABD Consideration: ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below)
ABD Description ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
