- 2 cups strong chilled Chai tea
- 1/2 cup soaked nuts
- 1 small frozen banana
- 1/2-1 tsp loose Chai tea
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- dash nutmeg
- dash stevia
I have been enjoying chai tea these days chilled instead of hot, especially since the weather is sweltering even early in the morning. I was late in the game with the rave for howyummychai tea was (better late than never is my motto, wink wink).Well, probably because I don’t patron those fancy coffee places so I was out of the loop.
Thiscreamy medley ofspicescould be a hit insome of those savvy shops! If it already is, Iwill tell you this, it will not be as good for you as opposed to the simple and real ingredients that you use to make thisrecipe. Not to mention, it willfill a hungry belly up just right!
I was half asleep throwing ingredientsin my Vitamix and even though I use that (multiple times) everyday, it always just about scares the pee right out of me when I press the button. It is POWERFULindeed! Our sweet little bird has also taken a liking to the Vitamix because every time I turn it on Olive tries tooutdo it’s loudness! Screeching and loud engines roaring in the wee hours of the morning are enough to frazzle my adrenalsoff the charts.
After I tookmy firstchugI realized I was on to something and I heard ark angels singing; which is better than the ruckus going on in my kitchen. I love hearing from you too so please comment below andlet me know what you think or even if you have a favorite ingredient to add!
Enjoy the medicinal properties of Chai!
Creamy Chai Smoothie {raw, vegan, paleo, dairy & gluten free]
Prep time
Total time
Author: Dawn Rofrano with Spoonful of Health
Serves: 2
Ingredients
- 2 cups strong chilled Chai tea
- ½ cup soaked nuts
- 1 small frozen banana *or dates
- ½-1 tsp loose Chai tea
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- dash nutmeg
- dash stevia
Instructions
- Brew a strong batch of chai tea and chill it overnight or cool it for an hour.
- In a strong blender or Vitamix add all the ingredients except the protein powder.
- Blend until creamy, add protein powder and stevia to taste.
Notes
*If you want to omit the banana you can replace it with 4-5 ice cubes and 3-4 whole pitted dates. The texture will be thinner but delicious all the same. I have used soaked brazil nuts, almonds and cashews in this smoothie. They all work beautifully. I like to brew the tea the night before and refrigerate 2 cups overnight so in the morning I can add it to the smoothie. I have added more loose tea in the smoothie but it will depend on the blend you have. I have a Rooibos blend of chai that is caffeine free and it seems more pungent than the Yerba Mate' blend with the caffeine. Please use a clean protein {without added sugars etc} to fit your dietary needs.

Hello Kristen,
Happy to hear from you on here!!! I switch between a clean vanilla whey and a pea protein by Design for Health, and Biopharma’s whey. Sometimes I use just hemp seeds rather than buying it in the powder as it tastes better and I feel it is always better to use whole food than processed. We have tried so many, none of them are perfect it seems, not organic, too much sugar, icky oils, GMO’s, hidden “natural flavors, or even poor sources of added mineral and vitamins. Our Clinic’s Natural Medicine formula’s is developing a clean protein just for this reason! Keep you posted!KristenJune 26, 2014 at 6:14 pm - Reply
Yes that sounds exactly what the issue is whenever I think I find one. I’ll look up Biopharma. I have used other supplements from them . And keep me posted!! I would prefer to find a clean grass fed whey protein and since I don’t eat grains, I don’t use pea protein.
