The nation’s capital loves its cannabis, so much so that the National Cannabis Festival takes place on the National Mall every April with A-list celebrity headliners, food vendors and more. Ironically, while recreational cannabis use and possession are legal in D.C., sales and large-scale production are not, and that’s because D.C. is caught in a tangle of local and federal laws (you know, the whole No Taxation without Representation thing).
There is one crucial loophole. Although most D.C. dispensaries are not allowed to sell marijuana (except medical dispensaries), they can gift marijuana up to 10 ounces. This minor caveat has sparked some serious creativity within the cannabis community. Whether you’re interested in flower, vapes or edibles, here are the best dispensaries in Washington, D.C. worth checking out.

The largest dispensary in D.C. is also one of the best in the region. Its cheery baby-blue brick storefront conceals a sleek space accented with light woods and warm tones. The staff gets high marks for their friendliness and depth of knowledge.

TheNational Holistic Healing Centeris almost spa-like with its minimalist design and soothing ambiance. (The posters on the wall read: Listen, Guide, Treat, Heal.)When it comes to cannabis,it’s got flower, hash, rosin, kief, edibles, tinctures, and distillate syringes. The vape cartridge selection is beyond massive, and there’s a substantial selection of smoking accessories. Plus, you don’t even need to get out of the car to access any of it since curbside delivery is available.

With clean lines and white walls, this Black-owned medical dispensary in the Mount Vernon neighborhood keeps the spotlight on its products–literally. Nugs are mounted on wooden pedestals like holy relics.
