Tuesday the Nestle candy company announced it's going to remove all dyes and artificial colors from their candy by the end of 2015.
NESTLE(R) CRUNCH(R) has partnered with fashion icon Paul Frank Industries to introduce the limited edition Nestle Crunch Paul Frank chocolate bar.
(WZZM) - There has been a lot of debate over artificial colors and flavors in foods. The one that's gotten the most attention in recent years is Red Dye 40.
Tuesday, the Nestle candy company announced it's going to remove all dyes and artificial colors from their candy by the end of 2015. It will affect all 250 products, including Butterfinger, the Nestle Crunch bar and Baby Ruth. The dyes will be replaced with natural ingredients like annatto and vanilla.
This comes after a Nielsen survey found 60% of Americans prefer no artificial colors or flavors.
One of the reasons for the removal of the dyes and additives is because of their link to ADHD in children. Nearly 50% of the time, removing the dyes eliminates the ADHD diagnoses. The dyes are made from petroleum and cause inflammation in our system which affects the brain especially in young children.
