Why Fans Are WORRIED About the New Skip-the-Line Service Coming to Disney World (2024)

Disney World announced a HUGE change this week coming to its Genie+ service.

For starters, it will no longer be called Genie+ and instead will be Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. The Individual Lightning Lane option will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. Those are easy changes to accept. However, Disney has also added some new features that have caused concern among some fans.

So what’s changing in addition to the name? Well, for starters, you’ll be able to purchase Lightning Lane Multi-Pass early and choose three Lightning Lane selections BEFORE your Disney World Trip, similar to the old FastPass+ system. Those staying at a Disney World hotel can make those selections seven days in advance, while others can make those selections three days in advance.

Rides will be assigned a tier, so you can choose one ride from the top tier and two from the bottom tier. Again, this is similar to the old FastPass+ system.

You’ll also be able to make Lightning Lane Single selections early, as well, plus you’ll be able to make those purchases and Lightning Lane Multi-Pass purchases all at the same time.

Of course, this is a HUGE change that will start soon (on July 24th), and we’ve noticed that a lot of AllEars readers seem to have some concerns about this change. Here’s what you’re telling us.

International visitors won’t get to book early

Disney World’s international visitors, including those from the U.K. and Canada will not be able to book Lightning Lanes until they get to the U.S., which has caused some concern. Many of our international readers worry that by the time they can make their Lightning Lane selections, many will no longer be available.

This is certainly a cause for concern, and we’re hoping Disney releases more details on how it will be able to accommodate international visitors to the perks who would like the same perks as those who live in the U.S.

Will this limit how many Lightning Lanes you can get in a day?

Another concern we’ve seen is that it feels like this could limit how many Lightning Lanes you’ll be able to book in a single day. With so many people booking Lightning Lanes in advance, it could affect how many are available on the day of your visit, so we see how this could be a valid concern.

However, there’s no way to test this theory until the service actually begins, so we’ll have to see how our day is impacted once it arrives in late July.

Learning Curve

So it took a while to learn the ins and outs of Genie+, but now this is essentially that plus a lot of new stuff. Many of you seem to be worried that you’re going to have to learn this new system quickly before your next trip.

For those who visited Disney World before 2020, though, much of it will be familiar — it’s very similar to the old FastPass+ system. However, we recommend spending some time before your trip. on the My Disney Experience app playing around with these new features just to get a handle on how it works.

Price

The biggest concern we’re seeing from our readers concerns price. Disney has not yet revealed if the price for the NEW features will be the same as Genie+, particularly as that price fluctuates from day to day. Some fear that Disney will use the additional features as an excuse to raise the price for both the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Also, with visitors being able to purchase in advance, will they get a better price than those who wait until they get to the parks to purchase the service? There are still some questions that haven’t been answered yet.

We understand that there will be a lot of concerns until the new system goes into place, but you can bet we’ll be trying it out and letting you know what it’s like as soon as it’s available, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
