Dried citrus peel | Comfort Food Infusion (1)Dried orange peel is used in a variety of recipes, from sweet to savory. Here are instructions on how to dry, and rehydrate fresh orange peels. This method can be used for any citrus.

1. Heat oven to 200°F
2. Peel orange. Cut peels into large strips, so that are easy to work with.
3. Using a sharp knife, blade placed almost flat against orange peel (similar to how you would fillet a fish). Remove as much of the white pith as possible.↓

4. Slice peels into thin, matchstick-size strips.↓

5. Spread peels out on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Bake in 200° F oven for about and hour. Check on them every 15 minutes to make sure they don’t burn.

6. Turn off oven and leave them inside to dry completely, overnight. They will curl and shrivel once dried through.↓

7. Once completely dry, store in an airtight container.

To rehydrate, place desired amount of dried orange peels into a small bowl. Add boiling water to the orange peels. Let sit for about 3 minutes (longer if needed for further softening).
Drain water and use.↓
