Mohammed Shami provides injury update after being ruled out of IPL 2024 (2024)

Mohammed Shami has posted an injury update on his social media after the Indian pacer was ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024 season on March 13.

Shami, who was a star for India during the ODI World Cup 2023, hasn't played any matches after the tournament and missed the tour of South Africa and the Test series against England. The pacer underwent surgery in February this year on his heel and was expected to be out for some time.

The pacer took to social media on Wednesday to update the fans on his recovery and said that he had the stitches removed. Shami said he was thankful for his advancements and was looking forward to the next stage of his recovery.

"Hello everyone! I wanted to provide an update on my recovery progress. It has been 15 days since my surgery, and I recently had my stitches removed. I am thankful for the advancements I have achieved and looking forward to the next stage of my healing journey," said Shami on Instagram.

Till when will Shami be out of action?

The BCCI said on March 12 that Shami would be missing the entirety of the IPL and would be monitored by the BCCI medical team.

"He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024," the BCCI said.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah had recently confirmed that Shami will also be missing the T20 World Cup 2024 as India head to the Caribbean and the US for the tournament. The BCCI secretary also said that Shami is expected to be back for the home series against Bangladesh, September.

"Shami surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami's return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh," Jay Shah told PTI.

Shami will be a big miss for Gujarat Titans, where he emerged as the spearhead of their attack last season. With 28 wickets, the pacer had also won the Purple Cap last season as GT made it to the final.
